It’s a historic moment for Clovis West‘s girls soccer team. The Golden Eagles have secured their first league title in 21 years.

Despite losing the regular season finale 1-0 against Clovis North on Tuesday, Clovis West did just enough to win the TRAC title. While Clovis West lost its match against the Broncos, Buchanan also lost against Clovis East. As a result, the Golden Eagles secured sole possession of first-place.

“It kind of feels unreal. But it’s definitely motivating,” Clovis West junior Emma Calvillo said after her team celebrated their big moment. “We had that chip on our shoulders all season, so it has definitely motivated us. We have been there for each other through all the adversity. We’re going to the playoffs feeling confident, so it’s definitely an unreal feeling.”

The Golden Eagles have seen a series of challenges along the away, including a handful of injuries. And still, they have managed to overcome the hurdles.

“We’ve had injured players, sick players, a lot of adversity that has came to our team this season, but we’ve had players that have stepped up,” Calvillo said.

As they move forward to the playoffs, the Golden Eagles feel that their togetherness will show even more.

“Our sisterhood is a big part of it,” Calvillo said. “We’re a very close group so I think that helps our connection on the field and picking each other up when we face those adversity times.”
