Girls Basketball: San Joaquin Memorial wrapped up a perfect league season on Tuesday night with a 57-34 win on the road against Bullard. Tuesday’s victory put the icing on a dominating run in the CMAC for the Panthers, who won each league game by double digits.

The up-and-coming Bullard Knights tried to keep pace with the Panthers in the standings, but came up just short in the end. The Knights finished with a 6-2 record in the CMAC after Tuesday’s loss.

Bullard managed to cut the Panthers’ lead to single digits in Tuesday’s match after the road team attempted to pull away in the third quarter. San Joaquin Memorial, however, eventually put the game away as they continued to attack the Knights from the inside and outside.

“We were just ready to play today,” SJM sophomore Gia Souza said after dominating the paint to help her team get the win. “We know where we are on the court all the time. And then us rebounding, getting those easy buckets, out running them, got us the win.”

Souza is one of several underclassmen on the team, but the Panthers also feature plenty of experienced players who are leading the way.

“They really run our team, help us know where to be, keeping us in check for our team,” Souza said about the older players on the team. “It helps us a lot. Without them, we would be kind of a little mess.”
