New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge made a quick impression with his size and strength when he started playing baseball at Fresno State. Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was one of the first to be mesmerized by Judge’s prowess.
According to Yankees Magazine, Carr and Judge shared the weight room while attending Fresno State at the same time. The former Fresno State football standout said his jaw dropped when he saw Judge working out.
“I knew the baseball team was lifting, but who is this?” Carr said as he reflected on his first encounter with Judge. “Is that Blake Griffin? There’s no way this guy is just playing baseball.”
After seeing the baseball star, the quarterback went on a recruiting mission.
“I remember going up to him and trying to get him to play tight end,” Carr told Yankees Magazine. “I’m like, ‘Who is this dude working out with the baseball team? This guy needs to come catch some fades in the red zone from us.’”
Fresno State baseball coach Mike Batesole also talked about his impression of Judge.
“He just does things right,” Batesole said. “It’s great to have somebody around that you can trust. And that didn’t come from us. It’s from two great parents, that’s where that came from.”
