Clovis West‘s baseball team has its eyes set on much bigger goals after winning the league title on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles clinched the TRAC Championship with a decisive 4-0 victory over Clovis North. Tyler Patrick pitched a complete game in the win. The senior allowed only three hits and recorded eight strikeouts.
Senior Rey Peraza led a strong effort for the Golden Eagles in the hitting department. Peraza posted two hits with two RBI. Sophomore Adam Plascencia and senior Luke Raygoza also contributed with an RBI each.
Patrick, who scored a run to go along with his stellar play on the mound, praised his team for putting together a strong a performance in all phases all season.
“Our team has done a great job offensively, defensively, and on the mound this year,” Patrick said. “We play with a lot of confidence and trust in each other which allows us to succeed together.”
With one game left in the regular season, the Golden Eagles hold a 12-2 record in the TRAC. The team lost 6-5 against Central on April 9 and 1-0 in extra innings against Clovis North on Tuesday.
Patrick said it’s now time to focus on much bigger goals.
“We set high expectations at the beginning of the year and it’s great to see the hard work paying off now late in the year,” the senior said. “We have a ton of confidence, but we know that we have to play our best game and nothing will be easy in the postseason.”
Clovis West will wrap up the regular season with the third game of the series against Clovis North on Friday.
