Clovis High junior Aaron Huerta is off to a fast start in the 2023-24 season. The Cougars star student-athlete has scored 19 goals in 11 games to become the section leader. Huerta opened the season with a five-goal performance against Orange Cove on Nov. 17 as the Cougars won 7-0. He also recorded a hat-trick on Nov. 21, leading Clovis High to a 3-2 win against Livingston.
The Cougars have survived some tough tests early in the season. In the championship game of the Powerade Showcase, Clovis High outlasted the Central Grizzlies as the match was decided with a penalty shootout.
Clovis High’s only loss so far came against Palos Verdes on Dec. 8, a 4-1 defeat. The Cougars, however, responded the next day with a 2-2 draw against Woodrow Wilson.
Clovis High stands at 12-1-2 overall. The Cougars will kick off league play on Jan. 9 against Buchanan.
