Central’s boys 4×4 relay team put together an epic performance at the TRAC championships on Thursday. The team of EJ Morgan, Brandon Smith, Xavier Jones and Walter Pierce recorded the fastest time in the state, finishing with a mark of 3:15.01, per the Grizzlies. They also narrowly missed the school record of 3:14.78, which was set by the state championship team in 2022.
Central’s 4×4 team finished well-ahead of second-place Clovis (3:20.93). Buchanan came in third (3:22.62).
There was a lot more for Central to celebrate at the TRAC championships. Senior Samuel Agbakoba took first in the boys triple jump and set the No.1 mark in the state (47-10.50), according to the team. Another Central senior, David Mangum, finished second in the triple jump (46-03.50).
In the 110-hurdle, Grizzlies’ senior Noel Felix gave his school another first-place finish. He finished with a time of 14.01. That’s the fifth fastest time in the state.
Buchanan’s Hudson Hergenrader came in second (14.44). Central sophomore Jaylen Jackson was third (14.93). It was the same order in the 300-meter hurdles: Felix (39.70), Hergenrader (40.31). Jackson (40.56).
