Several high school football stars from the Central Valley went to Stockton, California over the weekend to show off their skills at the National Preps Showcases, an event which features skills competitions for specific positions. Many of the athletes, representing various schools from across the Valley, walked away with special honors after taking part in the event.
Sunnyside High School’s standout receiver C.J. Jones earned the overall MVP award at NPS. Jones continues to show off his elite skills throughout the year after he was named to the North Yosemite League First Team this past season. The junior totaled 71 receptions with 1,060 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2023.
Central High School’s defensive tackle Shondrick Smallwood also showed off his skills at NPS. Smallwood was crucial for the Grizzlies this past season. The junior totaled 57 total tackles, including 14 tackles for loss, along with two sacks and four fumbles caused.
Sanger High School junior Jonathan Ybarra was named Offensive Line MVP at NPS for the second year in a row. Ybarra has stayed busy throughout the offseason. The junior showed off his skills at the U50 Linemen tournament in March. He also had recent visits to UNLV and Fresno State. And he stays busy in the weight room of course as seen on his social media posts.
Dozens more came from around the state on Saturday to compete at NPS, including Kerman High junior Nicholas Grewal.
